Remark: I have been making x-tal sets since I was 9 years old (1969), mainly based on the schematics of the early 1960's Philips x-tal sets (I'll look up the instruction manual and mail it to you). My primary drive was to build the sets a tiny as possible, down to matchbox size. Reception in the AM-band has always been sufficient, and I thought I had nothing to improve. But after the recent discovery of your great site I learned that there is much more to x-tal sets than I always thought. And also that size matters: the larger the set, the better looking it gets! You got me started to pick up my old favorite passtime again. I have been experimenting several designs, all i need now is a genuine 2x2000 ohm phones set. Remark: Hallo,Tolle Seite!!! Experimentiere auch mit Detektoren u. Rückkopplungs-Detektoren. Tip: Filmdosen sind sehr gute Träger für Spulen. Deckel wird auf Trägerbrett genagelt und so können verschiedene Spulen leicht gewechselt werden. Baue vieles auf der Basis der Phillips-Experemtierkästen (exellentes Federklemmsystem) Habe hier viele Anregungen (auch für Gehäusedesign) gefunden. Ciao Johannes.

ich hatte Freude an allem. Mit 12 habe ich meinen ersten Detektor gebaut. Das war vor 40 Jahren. Die Freude daran ist nicht vergangen. Eine Frage habe ich aber auch: Mit einigen Detektorkristallen und einer Vorspannung lassen sich Schwingungn erzeugen. Ich habe früher mal mit Zinkoxyd Versuche gemacht. Gibt es irgendwo noch Baupläne oder Erfahrungsberichte darüber? MfG Roland

(Bemerkungen von Gollum: Ich habe zwei Artikel, die sich mit "Schwingungs"-Detektoren beschaeftigen in Buechern gefunden. Eugen Nesper beschreibt in seinem Buch "Wie baue ich einen einfachen Detektor", 1925 solche "Crystodyne-Empfaenger". Er nennt als Material Rotzinkerz (ZnO, Zinkit, Mangan-Zinkoxyd) mit Stahlnadel. Vorspannungen von 8-14V werden gennant. Ich will demnaechst auch einen Versuchsaufbau durchfuehren. Vielleicht stelle ich ihn auf meinen Internetseiten vor.)

At this time longwave dx is the main line of interest,as i see you have a couple of types in your list. My current set is a three coil type with all day reception of three German stations, three French the bbc radio four is at speaker level and very good entertainment value. As an old-timer (Borne in 1942 ,licensed as a Ham Radio in 1960) I can appreciate the old technologies.I fell in love with Radio at the age of 10.My early projects never worked! There was no success with the Galena ,also the first tube project was a failure (One tube type 1H5 ,a low
anode voltage).If you ask why ?There was not a reliable refernce to ask questions , no tutor and ofcours no
Internet Site like this of Gollum's! And now ? Well I feel surrounded with modern technologies :At work as a medical engineer ,at home as a ham with digital rigs (Including Packet Radio ,PSK31 etc.), and my children,each of them,is involved in a "Start Up" (High Tech innovative projects).So , I AM LONGING FOR OLD RADIO TECHNICS.

You and  very few other specialsts did great by demonstrating the old Radio technics on the Internet stage:
1)It helps the new commer to learn and  understand.
2)It reminds the good old times.
